Melbourne defeat Perth and reaction from Mitchell

Monday, November 2, 2009

IT'S a cliche to say that a loss is disappointing. EVERY loss is disappointing, from the big thrashings to the winner in the 94th minute.

But what is different is the reasons for the disappointment, well usually.

Yesterday Perth Glory lost 2-1 to Melbourne Victory and it's the third successive lost for the boys in Purple.

And once again it was two goals which came from defensive errors, rather than brilliance from the other team.

Speaking of brilliance, Mile Sterjovski's goal was fantastic. He's the Glory's marquee, but we haven't seen much from him until yesterday. That goal, a scorching effort from the edge of the box was spectacular.

Back to the defensive errors, the first one wasn't the deflection from Chris Coyne; it was the way the defenders backed of Carlos Hernandez, inviting him to shoot from inside the penalty box. After what happened last week with Dyron Daal, surely Glory would have learnt their lesson.

The second Victory goal came from a great cross into the box from Nathan Elasi. Tando Velaphi couldn't get a touch it and Hernandez easily tapped it in for another, with the Glory defender trailing meekly behind.

Even more disappointing were the number of misplaced passes and crosses, which became annoying as the game went on.

But there were periods of the game when Perth dominated the game, like the last 10 minutes of the first-half and last few minutes of the game. But they have yet to have a good performance for the whole 90 minutes.

Here's what Glory coach Dave Mitchell had to say about the game:

When we're not dominating games, we've got to keep a clean sheet.

It seems to be we've got to play really well to score goals and then we tend to switch off a little bit and it is concerning because its happened a few times, so we've really got to put out finger on it.

It's bitterly disappointing because we've lost our home advantage and the first half I think we played very well, probably could have been a couple of goals up.

Second half, we've not come out and performed the way we like and we suddenly paid the price for that.

The price was the first defeat at home this season.

Should also give a shout out to Scott and Ben T, who attended the game with FP yesterday. Both of whom were disappointed at the result, and the performance of one player - Eugene Dadi.

Scott went as far as to call Dadi "lazy". There were times when FP could agree and it was interesting to see his reaction to getting subsituted - throwing a bottle on bench.

DM take on the incident:

Eugene hadn't played for a little while and he had a good game today. If he's not happy being taken off, that's a good thing.

It's good he's disappointed. If there was a little bit of dissent there, I'll have a chat with him and talk with him and put my arm around him and buy him a coffee.

Apparently Branko Jelic, Glory's regular striker, was left out because he was feeling ill. Hopefully he'll overcome that in time for next week's match against Wellington Phoenix.

And that's all from FP today, more to come tomorrow.

Ciao.

Hey mate - yes I agree with Scott, Dadi looked very lazy at times. But he has shown moments of stardom. We need more of them Gene!!

Think i saw you guys - Were you wearing a snake T-shirt? And i think your brother was getting in the mix of it with the Shed Folk too!!

I agree too!
I think that guy helped fend off a Mel Victory supporter. Stupid Victorian thought he could push in line for beers. Not on our watch buddy!!

Well football talk now (leave the beer stuff out). What was with the umpires? I know we bag them abit but cmon one of the victory almost took off Dadi's head!! WTF

Dadi seriously struggles. Not fit enough and doesn't work hard enough. Can't wait to have Jelic back, hopefully Skorich can regain full fitness soon as well.

Dadi sealed his fate when he failed to get his foot under the ball properly like a real professional should to score a goal. That for me was the goodbye to Dadi, as he was given a lot of opportunity to perform. Sure the umpiring wasn't good at times but he was set up for a goal that he should of put away.

Dadi or not Dadi, that is not the problem.
I think people should start to seriously ask themselves the right questions..
Can't anyone see the problem is coming from this incompetent coach?

Last few games were not really a success.
We apparently have the best players ever this season, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Something is still wrong somewhere...

If Jelic (who only scored 4 tapping goals in 12 rounds and who hasn't scored since 4 games)misses some goals, everybody thinks he's a great player...
If Mile, scores only one fantastic goal after 3 penalties, in 13 rounds, everybody thinks he's a hero...

But if Dadi(who hasn'd had the chance to express himself this season but who proved enough last season) misses some chances, everybody thinks that's his end...

At the end of the day, he scored 10 goals in 16 games last season, and I don't think anyone has done better so far...
Statistics will speak for themselves...
